On 14 October 2015, the Chinese National Health and Family Planning Commission notified WHO of 2 new laboratory-confirmed cases of human infection with avian influenza A (H7N9). The cases are a 55-year-old female and a 53-year-old male from the municipalities of Huzhou and Jinhua in Zhejiang province. Both report exposure to poultry and live poultry markets.

The Chinese government is continuing to take steps to strengthen surveillance, reinforce case management and medical treatment and inform and communicate risk with the public.

WHO is monitoring the epidemiological situation and carrying out risk assessment based on the latest information. The public health risk from avian influenza A(H7N9) viruses has not changed overall.
