Diphtheria cases have been reported in Laos. Since the beginning of 2015, a total of 588 cases have been recorded in one third of provinces in the country. Sixty one percent of cases have been reported in children and adolescents under 15 years of age. Eleven diphtheria related deaths have also been recorded.

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of diphtheria vaccine according to the UK childhood schedule. It is recommended that travellers to Laos have a diphtheria booster (or course) if not already protected.
