Circulating Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus in Laos (Update)

In the past week, one new case of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 1 (cVDPV1) was reported in Laos. The case was identified in the Bolikhanh district of Borikhamxay province in central Laos. This brings the total number of cVDPV1 cases in 2015, to 3.

Advice for Travellers

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of polio vaccine according to the UK childhood schedule. It is recommended that travellers have a poliomyelitis booster (or course) if not already protected. Travellers should also take precautions with food, water and personal hygiene.
