Scientists at the Emerging Virus Research Unit in the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology in Jakarta have confirmed Zika virus in Indonesia. The virus has been identified molecularly for the first time in the country and the finding will be presented at the Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting organized by Mahidol University, Thailand, on 2-4 Dec 2015.
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
