The media has reported that the Ministry of Health has confirmed two autochthonous cases of Zika virus infection in Mexico. The cases were located in Chiapas in the south of the country and in Nuevo Leon, northeastern Mexico. Zika virus infection was confirmed by the National Institute of diagnostic and epidemiological reference.
The Health Minister is urging communities to reduce mosquito breeding site by not storing water in open containers and to spray their homes with insecticide. Government fogging is also being carried out to reduce mosquitoes.

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Due to the possible link between Zika virus infection and birth defects, pregnant women are urged to be particularly vigilant in preventing mosquito bites.
Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
