Cholera in Iraq (Update)

The World Health Organisation has reported that the cholera outbreak in Iraq has steadily declined in the last three weeks with few cases now being reported. During this outbreak, 17 out of Iraq's 19 governorates have reported laboratory-confirmed cholera cases. A total of 4858 confirmed cases and 2 cholera related deaths have been reported nationally as of 17 November 2015.

Advice for Travellers

Cholera is a low risk for most travellers. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food/water precautions and personal hygiene should be maintained whenever possible.
