Yellow Fever in Peru (Update)

The number of reported yellow fever (YF) cases has increased from 14 on 29 Sep 2015, to 21 on 30 Oct 2015. These YF virus infections were reported as sylvan (rural, monkey) transmission cycle occurrences and not acquired in urban settings.

A total of 21 cases and 4 deaths have been reported from the following departments: Cusco (1), Huanuco (1), Junin (5), Loreto (6), Madre de Dios (1), Pasco (2) and San Martin (5).

Advice for Travellers

The departments mentioned in this report are all located in known yellow fever risk areas and yellow fever vaccination is recommended for travellers to these areas.

Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites.
