Yellow Fever in Angola (Confirmed)

The Ministry of Health in Luanda has reported that the samples sent to the WHO laboratory in Dakar, Senegal have confirmed yellow fever virus.

The outbreak is occurring in Viana municipality; a suburb of the capital Luanda, Luanda province. Suspected cases were first identified 30 December 2015. Currently 99 suspected cases have been recorded with 8 fatalities reported; of the suspected cases, 26 have been confirmed.

Advice for Travellers

There is a risk of yellow fever and vaccination is advised for travellers (unless contraindicated). Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites.

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from all travellers over 9 months of age entering Angola.
