A new cholera outbreak has been declared in Bulambuli District in eastern Uganda; four cases have been identified in Muyembe sub-county. The worst affected sub-counties include Bukalu, Nambogo, Muyembe, Bulegeni Town Council, Bulambuli Town Council and Bukhihonge.
According to the district health department, the latrine coverage in the district stands at 69% with safe water coverage at 48%.
Cholera outbreaks are also onging in the districts of Busia, Mbale and Sironko.
In Mbale district, 16 sub counties are affected, with 150 cases including 8 fatalities reported. Sironko district has six sub counties affected, with around 80 cases and 7 deaths reported in a two week period.

Cholera is a low risk for most travellers. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food/water precautions and personal hygiene should be maintained whenever possible.
