The Czech Republic has reported the highest number of tick-borne encephalitis cases in Europe in 2015, despite recording a slight reduction in cases.
A total of 351 cases (including 2 fatalities) were reported in 2015, the worst affected areas were the regions of South Bohemia and Vysocina. Other affected areas include: Central Bohemia, South Moravia, and the Plzen (west Bohemia) and Pardubice (east Bohemia) regions.
Three cases were infected following consumption of unprocessed goat milk.

Immunisation against tick-borne encephalitis is available for travellers going to risk areas during the high risk season in spring and summer. Travellers should take steps to avoid tick bites.
