Yellow Fever in Uganda (Update)

20 April 2016

The yellow fever outbreak that began 6 weeks ago in Masaka district, central Uganda is ongoing. At least 10 deaths have been reported; 7 in Buwunga sub-county and 3 in the neighbouring district of Bukakata. The affected areas are mostly surrounded by thick forests, located along the shore of Lake Victoria. This is a media report.

Advice for Travellers

There is a risk of yellow fever in Uganda and vaccination is advised for all travellers (unless contraindicated). A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers over 1 year of age arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.

  • Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites at all times.
