The media has reported on an outbreak of cholera in middle Jubba region, southern Somalia.
The health minister is said to have reported 12 deaths from cholera and a further 65 suspected cases who are receiving treatment at medical facilities; 43 in Sakow town, and 21 in the capital of the region, Bu'ale. Eleven of the fatal cases were located in Sakow and one in Bu'ale.

Cholera is a low risk for most travellers. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food/water precautions and personal hygiene should be maintained whenever possible.
