Dengue Fever in Paraguay

Dengue fever is an ongoing problem in Paraguay. As of 20 April 2016, 110 086 suspected and 29 731 probable cases have been recorded nationally. Of those, 2151 have been confirmed as dengue virus infection.

The municipalities worst affected include: Asuncion metropolitan, Coronel Oviedo, Caaguazo and Encarnacion. This is a media report.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
