No Ongoing Reports of Zika Virus Infection in Solomon Islands

10 May 2016

On 2 May 2016, ECDC removed Solomon Islands from its list of countries reporting confirmed autochthonous vector-borne transmission of Zika virus (ZIKV) infection in the past 9 months. Whilst the possibility of sporadic cases of ZIKV in the future remains, travellers should continue to avoid mosquito bites.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
