The Omani ministry of health has reported that a man has died of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) at Sultan Qaboos hospital in Salalah province, in the southern part of Oman on Friday 3 June 2016. The ministry advised that the man contracted CCHF from handling livestock.
The Omani ministry of health asserts that to date in 2016 8 people have died of CCHF. In 2015, 20 cases of CCHF were reported and 20% of the patients died.

CCHF is a low risk for the average traveller; it is spread by infected ticks from a reservoir usually in animals such as cattle, sheep and goats. Avoidance of tick bites is essential in risk areas.
