Dengue Fever in India (Update)

Delhi - at least 28 cases of dengue have been reported in Delhi with 15 of them in the month of June 2016. Last year (2015), the city saw 15 867 cases of dengue, the worst in 20 years.

Maharashtra (Nashik) - the NMC's health department reported 64 cases of dengue in June 2016. From 22-29 Jun 2016 alone, 27 were dengue positive from the city, and 5 from the outskirts were detected.

Maharashtra (Mumbai) - According to the Deputy District Medical Officer, a total of 386 confirmed cases of dengue fever had been reported from different parts of the district as of 3 Jul 2016. This is in addition to the 564 suspected dengue cases with the onset of monsoon.

Kerala (Idukki) - Health Department sources have confirmed 94 cases of dengue so far this year (2016).

Odisha (Cuttack) - the number of people infected with the dengue virus has reached 22 so far this year (2016).

Odisha (Keonjhar) - the total number of dengue cases in the Keonjhar district, so far this year (2016), is 162.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
