Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Pakistan

18 July 2016

Media reported 193 cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Safi tehsil of Mohmand Agency (Federally Administered Tribal Areas, FATA).

Advice for Travellers

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is transmitted by the bite of an infected sand fly.

Avoid outdoor activities after dusk where possible. Practice good bite avoidance measures, use a fine mesh, insecticide-impregnated bednets and sleep elevated off the floor. This reduces the number of bites as sandflies are poor fliers.
