A media reportof 10 October 2016 asserts that the Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health have confirmed a new case of polio from the Birmal district in the south-eastern Paktika province. This takes the number of polio cases detected across the country in 2016 to 8.
In response to the transmission in Paktika, 2 supplementary immunisation campaigns have been conducted.
