Yellow Fever in French Guiana

On 21 August 2017, the Agence Regional de Santé (ARS, Regional Health Agency) (in French) of French Guiana confirmed a case of yellow fever for the 1st time since 1998. The case died on 9 Aug 2017 and could have been infected in the border area of Oiapoque in Brazil, according to the initial investigations of the ARS . She had been in the forest near St Elie and in the Oyapock Valley.

Advice for Travellers

There is a risk of yellow fever across the whole country and vaccination is advised (unless contraindicated). In addition, under International Health Regulation (WHO 2017) a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for all travellers over 1 year of age.
