The outbreak of P. falciparum malaria in Cape Verde continues, according to the country's Ministry of Health on 12 November 2017. The number of cases from 1 January to 12 November 2017 has reached 430. All of these cases were acquired in Cape Verde, with the exception of 18 imported cases.
All locally acquired cases have been reported in the capital city, Praia.
All cases recorded in Cape Verde are the dangerous falciparum form of malaria. Ongoing incidence indicates antimalarial chemoprophylaxis for some travellers, updated prevention advice is given.
Low to no risk of P.falciparum in all parts of Cape Verde, except the capital city Praia (see additional advice below). Mosquito bite avoidance is sufficient.
