According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Somalia continues to report transmission of Cholera.
From 1 January 2022 to 8 December 2022, there have been 13 079 suspected cases, including 73 deaths in 25 districts of Somalia. Banadir region, which surrounds the city of Mogadishu, has been particularly affected.
Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of faecally contaminated food or water, and occasionally foodstuffs such as shellfish.
Severe cholera is rare in travellers. Mild cases may present as travellers' diarrhoea.
