Dengue in Iran

The World Health Organization reports transmission of dengue in Iran. From 14 June 2024 to 17 July 2024 there have been been 12 cases of dengue in Bandar-Lengheh, Hormozgan Province in the south of the country. This is the first recorded transmission of dengue in Iran.

Dengue is an infection found in tropical and sub-tropical climates worldwide. It is spread by Aedes mosquito bites and can cause a severe flu-like illness.

Advice for Travellers

All travellers to affected regions are potentially at risk of dengue fever and should be aware of this infection.

Aedes mosquitoes are particularly persistent and aggressive. They bite between dawn and dusk.

A new dengue vaccine Qdenga® has been licensed in the UK.
