Malaria in Comoros

There has been an increase in malaria cases in Comoros in 2011, compared with 2010. So far this year, 103 670 cases of malaria have been recorded, of those 76 060 were located on Grande Comore, the largest island of the Comoros. There were 24 050 cases on Anjoun and 3350 on the smallest island of Moheli.

In 2010, a total of 57 084 malaria cases were recorded, although officials say that data in the past were less reliable and the 2011, figures represent a more acurate picture of the malaria situation.

Advice for Travellers

Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for all areas of this high risk destination. Good bite avoidance measures such as clothing, repellent and bed nets are essential as is the prompt reporting of any fevers.
