Japanese Encephalitis in Hong Kong

Hong Kong has confirmed its 1st case of Japanese encephalitis in 4 years. The patient, a 6-year-old girl, was admitted to hospital with fever and vomiting last month (July 2011)

Advice for Travellers

Japanese encephalitis vaccine is available for those considered to be at risk. Avoidance of mosquito bites by covering up, using insect repellent and impregnated bed nets is essential.
