Malaria in Pakistan

29 August 2011

During the last month, a significant number of malaria cases have been reported at the allied hospitals in Punjab. According to media reports, the District Headquarters Hospital received over 50 patients with complications of malaria. Benazir Bhutto Hospital received over 40 patients, while more than 35 patients with malaria were seen at the Holy Family Hospital. 22 cases of black water fever were reported, of which there were 4 deaths.

Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for all areas of this high risk destination. Good bite avoidance measures such as clothing, repellent and bed nets are essential as is the prompt reporting of any fevers.
