According to media reports, the number of people infected by tick-borne diseases, such as tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), has increased during 2011. During August, 66 cases of disease have been reported so far -more than for any other month in the past four years. For 2011, 144 cases of TBE have been reported so far, compared to 174 for the whole of 2010

Advice for Travellers
Immunisation against TBE is available for those considered to be at risk. From spring to late summer, travellers visiting rural forested, parkland areas, should take measures to prevent tick bites.
