The Red Cross reports a cholera epidemic with 12 713 cases and 364 deaths recorded so far in 2011. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says cholera has spread to 33 of Chad's 62 districts.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population, and cannot ensure safe drinking water, can be immunised against cholera.
