The Health Department of Western Australia in the south of the country has issued a reminder to residents of the need to avoid mosquito bites now that summer weather has arrived. This follows the confirmation of a number of cases of mosquito-borne virus infections across the state.
Murray Valley encephalitis has been reported in Kimberley and Kunjin virus in the Wheatbelt. There have also been confirmed cases of Ross River and Barmah virus infections between Perth and the south-east.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to these areas should be advised to avoid mosquito bites, particularly if outdoors after dusk. Travellers should use personal protective measures such as the use of repellent and clothing to cover the skin.
