A 39-year-old man from Shenzhen, Guangdong province has died from highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1. This is the first human case to be reported in China in the last 18 months. The virus in this human case is similar to the one found in a dead migratory bird in Yuen Long in December 2011. Investigation of the case is ongoing.
