Avian Influenza (Human) in China

The Centre for Health Protection in Hong Kong has confirmed a new human case of Influenza A (H5N1) virus infection. The case is a two-year-old boy from Guangzhou in China who developed symptoms on 23 May 2012. His parents sought medical care in Hong Kong and he is now receiving attention in intensive care where his conditions is described as serious.

The source of infection is being investigated, however, the only possible contact with poultry appears to be a visit to a wet market in mid-May.
