Cholera in Guinea

An outbreak of cholera has been reported from Guinea. The outbreak began one month ago and to date, 83 cases and 14 resulting deaths have been recorded.

The first cases were reported on the island of Kaback which lies off Conakry which borders with Sierra Leone where a cholera outbreak is also reported. The outbreak in Guinea is affecting the coastal prefecture of Forecariah, Kindia region and Boffa, Boke region.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
