In the first three months of 2012, more than 200 cases of cholera have been recorded in the city of Accra on the southern coast of Ghana. Health officials have urged the local population to improve basic hygiene practices in an attempt to contain the outbreak.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
