Avian Influenza (Human) in Indonesia

The Ministry of Health has confirmed the death of a 2-year-old boy from highly pathogenic, avian influenza (H5N1) virus infection. The child, from Siak, Pekanbaru in Riau province, central Sumatra had contact with poultry as his parents sold quails' eggs. He was admitted to hospital where he received treatment, despite this his condition deteriorated and he died on 27 April 2012.

This case is the 7th to be reported in 2012, in Indonesia and also the 7th fatality.
