Poliomyelitis in Nigeria (Update)

29 May 2012

Five new poliomyelitis cases were reported in the past week, two from Kano and Yobe, and three from Borno and Katsina. All of the cases had onset of paralysis in 2012, bringing the total number of cases in 2012, to 35.

A significant scale-up of technical staff, including social mobilization specialists, is underway in high-risk states. This increase in staff will help address problems related to vaccine rejection and vaccination awareness among some members of the public.
