Typhoid Fever in Zimbabwe (Update)

As of 06 May 2012, 4673 cases of typhoid fever have been reported as part of an ongoing outbreak. Although the weekly number of cases has declined, the disease now has spread to Chitungwiza City, Mashonaland Central Province (Bindura district), Mashonaland West Province (Zvimbaand Chegutu districts) and Midlands Province (Chirumanzu district).

Advice for Travellers

Typhoid vaccine is usually recommended for those visiting this area. Precautions with food and water hygiene is also recommended as the vaccine is not fully effective in protecting against typhoid fever.
