Acute watery diarrhoea - Cuba (Granma)

04 July 2012

The Ministry of Health of Cuba have reported approximately 1000 cases of acute watery diarrhoea mainly in the province of Granma. 53 of the cases have been confirmed as cholera and of the confirmed cholera cases there have been 3 deaths in elderly patients.

The source of infection is not yet clear but may be from contaminated water from local wells of that province.

All travellers are advised to take precautions with food and water and hand hygiene but especially if going to Granma.
