Cholera in Mali

As of 04 Jul 2012, 26 cases of cholera with two deaths have been reported as a result of an outbreak in the city of Gao, northern Mali. The disease has broken out in Wabaria, a south western suburb of Gao on the Niger river.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
