Cholera in Mali (Update)

The cholera outbreak in the north of Mali is ongoing. The total number of cases stands at 140 with 11 deaths recorded since the outbreak began in July 2012. Cases have been reported from Wabaria, Labbezanga and Ansongo in Gao region on the banks of the Niger River.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
