The Ministry of Health has reported on the ongoing cholera outbreak in Guinea. As of 8 October 2012, a total of 5699 cholera cases have been recorded, including 109 deaths. In the past three weeks, 3060 confirmed cases have been reported. The capital Conakry and the south-western city of Forecariah are the worst affected areas.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
