Avian Influenza (Human) in Cambodia (Update)

The Ministry of Health has reported another new confirmed human case of avian influenza (H5N1 virus) in Cambodia. This is the 6th case to be reported in 2013; a 5-year-old girl from Prey Kabass district in Takeo province in the southwest of the country. The girl developed symptoms on 25 January 2013, and despite intensive hospital care died on 7 February. There had been poultry deaths recently in her village and the girl had contact with poultry prior to her illness.
