Avian Influenza (Human) in Cambodia (Update)

The Ministry of Health has reported one further human case of avian influenza virus infection (H5N1). The case is a 4-year-old girl from the Angkor Chey district of Kampot province in the southwest of Cambodia. The child has been receiving treatment in hospital in Phnom Penh since 6 February 2013, and is in a stable condition.

Cambodia is reporting the worst outbreak of human avian influenza since cases were first reported in January 2004; a total of 28 cases and 24 deaths have been recorded since 2004.

Avian influenza is an ongoing problem in Cambodia; travellers should be aware and take steps to minimise the risk.
