An outbreak of cholera has been reported from a prison in Granma province. More than 30 inmates have contracted cholera and 3 have died as a result since 26 July 2013.
Cholera cases continue to be reported in various localities and provinces in Cuba following the first outbreak in Granma and Manzanillo province in June 2012.
Advice for Travellers
Cholera is a low risk for the average traveller to Cuba, however a good standard of food and water safety and personal hygiene should be maintained.
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera.
