The media has reported on a new human case of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 virus infection.
A 15-month-old boy in the Russei Keo district of Phnom Penh has been diagnosed with the infection when he was admitted to the Kantha Bopha Hospital with fever, cough, diarrhea, sneezing, lethargy and dyspnea. He was treated with Tamiflu and is currently in a stable condition.
The official statement from the Health Ministry and World Health Organization is awaited. The investigation into how the child contracted the virus is ongoing.
