Cholera is an ongoing problem in Nigeria with outbreaks being reported from Plateau state in central Nigeria, Sokoto and Zamfra states in the north on the country and from Lagos state in the southwest of the country. The Ministry of Health has reported around 373 cases and 74 cholera related deaths from the affected areas.
Health education and awareness campaigns are being carried out.

Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
