The yellow fever outbreak in Katanga province in the southeast of the country is ongoing. The media has reported on cases in the Kipamba health zone in Bukama territory. Health workers there report that in the past six weeks, 59 cases of yellow fever have been identified in ten localities. The media report does not mention if the cases have been confirmed.
A reactive immunisation was implemented on 1 May in Democratic Republic of Congo in response to two outbreaks reported on 12 March 2014.
Normally there is a very low risk of yellow fever in Katanga Province and vaccination is usually not advised for this area, however, vaccination is recommended at present as there is an outbreak going on in the province. Travellers should also take steps to prevent mosquito bites.
There is also a certificate requirement for entry into DRC for all travellers over 1 year of age.
