Human Avian Influenza (H5N1) in Egypt

WHO has published details in a recent report of 4 new human cases of avian influenza (H5N1) in Egypt.

The 4 cases are all female; 3 children age range 1-7 years and a 70-year-old woman. The cases were identified in Giza governorate (2), Sohag governorate (1) and Cairo (1). The children have all recovered and had a history of contact with live or dead poultry. The woman is in a critical condition and the source of exposure to infection is still to be determined.
