On 9 August the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reported 3 new cases of type 2 circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV2) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).
The total number of cases this year is 7. There have been two outbreaks: 5 cases in Haut Lomami province (most recent case 13 June); 2 cases and one positive sample from a healthy individual in Maniema province. An additional positive was detected in a healthy person on 2 May.
