On 30 August the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reported 1 new case of vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV2) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This case was in Haut Lomami province, with onset of paralysis on 20 Jun 2017. This brings the number of cVDPV2 cases in 2017 to 8. There have been 2 outbreaks: 6 cases in Haut Lomami province and 2 cases in Maniema province where an additional positive was detected in a healthy person on 2 May.
