As of 20 October 2011, 89 confirmed human cases of West Nile fever have been reported in the EU, 10 of those cases have been recorded in Romania. The area reporting the highest number of cases is Bucuresti municipality in the south of the country with 6 cases.

Advice for Travellers
West Nile virus is spread by mosquito bites. It has become more widely recognised in Europe in recent years. Travellers should take precautions to prevent mosquito bites especially during summer months.
