Dengue Fever in Ecuador

Dengue fever cases are being reported from coastal areas of the country and also from some provinces in central Ecuador.

The Andes mountain range is situated in central Ecuador and a few cases of dengue fever have been reported in the inter-Andean valleys up to 1500 m (4921 ft) altitude. Bolivar province reports 41 confirmed cases, Cotopaxi 11 cases and Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas province has reported 3 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers should be made aware of the risk of dengue fever in the valleys of mountainous regions of Ecuador and be advised to use personal protection methods to avoid mosquito bites.
